Is that it?  I have not seen the picture, but... it seems to me you are
talking about mapping the plane and the pieces with the same map (not
using autosize, but using your own size/coordinates).  The best way to do
it: assume the center is 0,0,0 and the plane full size is a round number,
something like 1.  In Modeler, you boolean the plane and keep the
individual pieces where they are when saving them (do not center them
again with the Center Plugin/macro).
Do not use global coordinates either.
